I am not asking the question for on site change. Referring to preparation setup like day before or such.

I use the same plate for all doubles. And a seperate plate for all single tank diving. I usually vary my tanks for the buoyancy I need. I.e. Steels vs aluminum, 8in vs 7.25, hp vs lp.

Steel backplate for LP steel and AL tanks, AL backplate for HP steel, both set up with identical harnesses, both set up for doubles. The AL backplate is gathering dust lately, but it's still ready for the next time I need it...

I change my plate based on the weight I need.

I use the same stainless plate for all different tank sizes, but I have several different weight belts that correspond to each tank size.
I also have a new aluminum plate for warm water but don’t know how I’m going weight myself yet, or react to So. FL water that warm since it’s been many years since I’ve dived in anything warmer than 50 degrees.
I hope I don’t freak out.

I understand that was a tongue in cheek remark but, I dove with a newbie that only dove in low vis, the 1st time he jumped into 50+ vis water he freaked and aborted the dive!
The vis unnerved him go figure.

I use the same rig for a single tank or double tanks. I only change the tank holder and weights.

I use a steel backplate for Al doubles and an Al backplate for my steel doubles. I am way overweighted with the steel doubles, even with the Al backplate and a dryuit. I need the weight of the steel bp for the Al tanks. I will make that change on successive dives at the site.

I use a steel bp for most single tank diving, but I use Al while traveling to save luggage weight. I did that today here in Palau.
