I've seen pictures of SK-6 compasses with the strap replaced with bungee - but when I tried replacing mine with 1/8" bungee, the bungee was "too fat" and pushed the innards of the compass up against the bezel ring, jamming it. What size bungee are people using for the SK-6 compasses? I think the SK-7 has a different style/size strap, so what works for that probably isn't applicable.

The SK-6 can be seen here.

I used 1/8" bungee on mine and had no problems. I even put the knots under the plate that unscrews from the back of the compass-- still no pushing up of inards against the bezel ring. Are you certain you have 1/8"?
