Just got a Mosquito for Xmas, and thought I'd search on here for any feedback. From what I found, it seems a number of people have Mosquitos as backup computers, or suggest them as good backups. I'm wondering if anyone has it as their primary computer? I have an Oceanic Prodigy that I use as the primary, and to me it doesn't seem that it does anything different or better than the Mosquito.
Thanks,
Dmentia

I use the mossy as my primary. I love it, after all i think it is the same as the Stinger without the high price. I like it's light weight while providing the functions of the suunto computers.

I think you will be happy with it.

PS consider getting a face cover to protect from scratches.

I use my Suunto Octopus as my primary. Hey, I'm not retrieving the Titanic here, just some recreational diving. I still use the tables to precalc my dive, I just use the Suunto to max out my time and check my decomp limits.

There's nothing wrong in using the Mosquito as a primary. It is as good as the Stinger in terms of recreational standard air dives.

I use the mosquito as a primary and its sturdy and takes the punishment I give it. never any problems with it at all exept after the dive when i download the dive into a PC.
its the same tables (suunto RGBM) as in the vyper / cobra and stinger so it is as sturdy as them when you rec dive, but there is not a gauge mode on it, and that is not so nice when you tec dive.
it will result in bending the computer with a 48 hour diving not alowed block.

Ok, i'm lost, what is the difference between free mode and gauge mode?

I thought you could do decompression diving on the mosquito???

The Mosquito has Deco diving features and free mode (no gauge mode).

I am not too sure of the difference, should I be right, the free dive mode is a feature to record dive info (every time a skin dive is made).

While the gauge mode will just be the depth and time info without any records.

Cheers

I have a Suunto Vyper. I like it and it has almost the same programming as the Mossie. The maual makes it very clear that it is not intended to be a "Deco Computer" If you exceed NDLs, it will compute an extremely conservative Deco schedule.

A number of posts (and echoed by the Tech Divers that I know) is to calculate the deco profile for each dive and use the Vyper in guage mode only for tech dives.

Just my .02...

gauge mode = as a botom timer only
freedive mode = as a freedive computer for 6 minutes then lockup the computer so that you cannot dive for x amount of hours (think it is 48)

then there is a difference in battery change and the mosquito is just preasured to 100 meters (if you go beyond that anyhow you are using the wrong tool)
also the material on the computer is different and the interface on the mosquito is the same interface as is to the cobra or the vyper and some others to come.
basically thats the differences on the computers
if you want to know it all check out suuntos homepage
there they all are....
