"All the way" from exactly where? The last mile before the intersection is so bloody stony. Shocks are probably in order here...!

Douglas Trail (Blue Dots) to Appalachian Trail to Sunfish Pond is the way my son and I went on the Recon mission. I am not saying it will be easy - only that it can be done - and I am not saying how long it will take... :D
That jogging stroller has a front wheel braking system that could be used - I just need to decide either leave it alone and use it as is or tear it down to the rails and try to modify it...

What scares me most is we get half way or all the way up and then these contraptions fall apart - then the true Sherpa is going to be engaged and I imagine multiple trips would be needed... I would prefer it fall apart in the parking lot before I load up the gear.... ;)

I'll wager a large lager that you'll bleed those tanks down to 10psi before the trek back. I would consider using some of those AT stones as ballast instead of lead. Save some weight - just gotta figure out how to rig them on your bcd.

I checked into that. Solids and Metals - Specific Gravities Rocks are almost useless, specific gravity of about 2.5 compared to lead at over 11. I'd rather the weight be gas on my back instead of lead on my belt.

Thank you for confirming what I thought I knew but could not prove it... Tom and I went for a dive up in MA - the wife drove away with our additional lead - I tried to use stones but it did not work... I have been thinking about it for a while but never knew how to dispel that notion...
:D

Gold - who knew... I would love to have Gold Weights... lol

You can't replace all your weights with rocks... But a large stone will fine tune you very nicely....

Jim...

The baby stroller might make a good base to transport gear. Can the wheels on the baby stroller be replaced with pneumatic tires like those used on a wheelbarrow? They might roll a lot easier over rocks and provide cushioning. Also, it might be easier to pull it rickshaw style rather than push from behind. Set up a harness and you might be able to just hike with it hanging on.

This is along my line of thought.

Two rails that load the hips only, wheel (or two) at bottom. Add a sliding platform that can position the load up or down. All the way up next to the back and you are effectively carrying a portion of it. All the way down by the wheel and you are pulling most of the load. There may be a "sweet spot".

Notice in the Native American pic that the horse is effectively carrying the load. Placing the load at the bottom would wear out the poles faster due to increased friction.

I like the concept - but I am going on the "cheap" for this endevour - I would need to find wheelbarrow wheels with the same axle diameter too - otherwise I think they will wobble - so I may skip that part...
And I will likely go with the pulling verse pushing - the only fear is losing equipment behind me or not noticing an overturn cart about to happen... I may need one of those bike helmet rear view mirrors... :D

Yeah, I'm leaning towards two BIG *cheap* hard rubber lawn cart type wheels for just that reason.

Update:
I already have the rails. Planning to slot them so I can use a weight belt.

Bigger the wheel ... The easier it is to move....
