Did anyone else see the sunfish (mola mola) today? We were headed back at around 1 pm and just as we got to Paradise reef a boat captain flagged us down and said there was something big in the water. We got over the top of it and it was indeed big but I had no idea what it was. Some said big tuna others speculated shark but it was big and Grey and I had to see what it was. Dawned the mask and fins and was rewarded with a 6 foot sunfish! Had to be 8 feet from top to bottom! I would guess in the 500 pound range. It was moving slow and we stayed with it for about 4 min before it headed out to deep blue. I of course did not have a camera with me but I found this pic on the net if anyone is curious what they look like.

Just when you think you have seen it all!! Hoot!:D

Get a camera permantly attached to you somewhere. What a great find, even if it was someone else's first. I've never heard of that version, but we have a little fresh water fish that goes by the same name.

That would be so cool to see! Only a die-hard scuba diver jumps IN the water when they hear something big is lurking underneath ;)

Please be there in 4 weeks when I arrive!!! I got snubbed finding a froggie in Bonaire in February so I'm hoping for a rare find in Coz.

I saw one in Coz. several years ago...big sucker.

When I first saw it I was wondering "What the hell is that thing?".

They look so weird with the fins flapping on the top and bottom of them instead of on their sides like fins on other fish.

Wow; that's something! I thought that ocean sunfish were strictly a Pacific species. Do we need to start spearing them, too? :D

Lucky you Tony!

We (myself and a another diver) saw one during our safety stop several years ago at Tormentos. It was incredible!
