Suggestions for a visiting diver

Hello west coasters,

I will be in Monterey the weekend of April 5 and was looking to get in a few dives while I am there. I was originally thinking of booking a charter on one of the dive boats, but then thought it might be nice to see if there were any groups doing shore dives that might welcome a New England Lobstah Divah. I would welcome suggestions, either way. I will only be available on Sunday for diving since I won't arrive in Monterey until Saturday night.

I don't think Mark and I will be around that weekend, not sure at the present though. If you can't find anyone to dive with you, there are some dive shops (Monterey Bay Dive Center) that will organize a paid guide for you. That's a great way to get an introduction to the area.

Thanks Chuck. This looks like a good reference to the area. I didn't see it posted in any other "hey, I'm visiting Monterey" posts so thanks for the tip.

This was also a thought so I'll probably investigate the options a couple weeks before I head out. Looks like the MBDC will provide a guide for a boat trip at a pretty reasonable price.

Actually, I'll be visiting the monterey area and diving around the same time (April 2 to April 5). I'm flying on the 6th in late afternoon, so I should really be out of the water by the afternoon of the 5th, but I'll dive (shallow) in the morning happily. I have already contacted MBDC about setting up wtih a guide during the week and maybe some boat diving. If some people are going diving on saturday morning and you welcome visiting divers, I'd be happy to join if possible and the site is at my level.
