FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SubGravity - Nov 3, 2022
Thornton Distribution LLC dba SubGravity Acquires Golem Gear
Acquisition allows SCUBA diving equipment brand to continue its expansion and development.
Draper, UT. SubGravity, a Utah based LLC which designs and builds trend setting and award winning equipment for the most extreme diving environments on the planet, has acquired Golem Gear, a FL based brand known for hard use cave diving equipment and rebreather design. The official announcement was made on the 3rd day of the DEMA show 2022. The move to acquire Golem Gear originated from a long standing beneficial relationship between SubGravity and Golem Gear since SubGravity’s inception in 2014. The process began formally in Q1 2022 and the deal was signed Nov 3, 2022.
“We are excited to announce this strategic acquisition and are looking forward to an exciting transition with new products and projects on the horizon,” said Josh Thornton, Co-Founder and President of SubGravity. “This important step will allow SubGravity to continue to grow and develop as a company and brand, directly benefiting the divers using the equipment we offer.”
The acquisition of Golem Gear fits into SubGravity’s strategy to continue providing well designed, rugged dive equipment for discerning divers. By purchasing Golem Gear, SubGravity will expand its product line and strengthen relationships with suppliers as well as customers. Previous and existing customers from both companies can expect more complete product availability, newly designed products and improved customer service.
“We are excited about this acquisition. It will benefit the diving community world-wide with the combined power of innovation and exciting new projects in the pipeline.” said Jakub Rehacek, founder of Golem Gear.

Hopefully that means better customer service! I’ve heard all sorts of horror stories about Golem.

Golem owes me eight stainless rings

"the shopkeeper" spent half his life in Czechoslovakia or whatever it's called today

I agree. I see this as a positive since the customer service of Subgravity is hard to beat. For years I have absolutely refused to buy from Golem unless absolutely necessary. Jakub was horrible at responding to customers and even worse at actually shipping your product. His shop was 45 minutes from my house, but it still took weeks to get my orders.

I am hoping for an aluminum reverse profile dogbone plate.

How thick will the aluminium have to be

do you really need any lighter than the current stainless steel stream plate? that one is already under 1kg iirc

Ounces equal pounds, pounds equal overweight luggage fees.

The XDeep Ghost style plates can weigh under a half kilo. And without going to expensive carbon fiber, in fact it weighs less than a Halcyon carbon fiber plates.

or just stuff your first stages in some cargo shorts / photography vest and you'll save a lot more weight from your checked luggage

Golem GoPro housing is all I own. Solid piece. But the mystery between the order and delivery was a touch sketch. You pretty much had to know Jakob's personal life to know if anyone would be around to ship your order. So if Sub Gravity gets the distribution straightened out, this will be good.

Reminds me a little of Mares taking over rEvo. All of a sudden parts distribution got really good. Product didn't really change (just a new source of buckles and eventually different 1st stages). But nothing any different than the normal yearly changes you typically see.
