I have over 40 dives on my AI and have been trying to figure out... underwater most of the time, how to get it to show me NDL time and ONLY NDL time.

Currently it shows me Air-Time remaining which I hate. I can see my remaining PSI at the bottom... thank you very much!

Is it possible to have it show ONLY NDL time or not. It would seem plausible at it currently defaults to air time remaining. I looked through the manual and I believe it said that this is possible(it's been a few weeks) but I haven't figured out how to do it.

If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it. It really bothers me... especially on deeper dives (90+ FSW).

Thanks!

Page 18 of the manual...

The time that is displayed will actually be the shortest time remaining (Air, NDL, or o2 loading (if set for nitrox)). I do not believe there is a way to change this.

IIRC, you can press the front button for two seconds, to get the other times. Then it will switch back to displaying the shortest time remaining.

I just went to Aeris' website to look at the manual and it appears that I will have to suffer with it telling me my remaining airtime... grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Can't wait for the Zeagle Cobalt to come out... ;)

Thanks for the help Mongoose. Unfortunately you're right. :(

You're not suffering at all...that feature is a *good* thing, *especially* on deeper dives. In fact, it's the whole point of an air-integrated computer.

Think about it for a sec ... do you want to be told you have 15 minutes of NDL remaining, when in fact you only have 3 minutes of gas?

If you get your SAC rate down to where you have more air than NDL, you'll get your NDL times ... :D

Personally I am moving to a brass-n-glass spg and a wrist-mount atmos in preparation for moving into deeper diving.

I see your point. But I don't need to be told how much gas I have remaining... at least not in minutes remaining. My gas consumption, although I haven't sat down and figured it out, is pretty decent.

I liked the feature when I first got the computer, now it is an inconvience for me. I wouldn't even be complaining about it if there was an option for turning it off or making it a secondary data point (i.e. - different screen).

Overall I love the AI, but two things bug me about it. The above obviously, and the awful download software.

I have actually been toying with switching computers with my wife and going to the set-up you mentioned above (SPG and wrist mount).

Oh well... guess I'll just wait for the Cobalt and deal with my AI for my trips to Curacao (Nov 24th and Bonaire April 06) ;)

Things could be worse. :D

I believe I saw something on the Aeris website about an entirely new (re-written from the ground up) software package due in early 2006. I hope they add SAC calculations.

Update: I found it

AERIS Dive Computer Interface

The all-new ACI PC Interface is built on a new software platform for improved user-interface, graphic respresentation, and sorting of dive data. Supports the Diver's Alert Network's PDE Program and is compatible with all AERIS Direct-Connect USB Dive Computers.

Available: January '06

Cool. Hopefully it will work better than the current version. I hope they incoporate something to make sure the dives we already downloaded don't disappear, since at AI with a 15 sec. sampling rate can only staore about 15-20 dives.

At least they heard the consumers cries...

I don't understand how having the computer show you the lowest time remaining would be an inconvenience. I would think I would want to know how long I have till my gas runs out, or NDL, or O2 toxicity limit, whichever is the first limit to come up. Granted, I haven't looked into the AI programming much (my wife dives one, I don't), but I would expect that, unless you're carrying doubled singles, or deco bottles, you don't need to know your NDL time until your NDL time is less than your gas. Does it not use your actual SAC, but a generic SAC instead?

It's personal preference. I want to see the NDL and only the NDL as my initial read-out. What irks me is that there is no option to change that and it automatically gives what is the lowest of the two, or three if you're diving Nitrox.

So what may not be an inconvenience to you, is to me.

To each his own...

dyarab,

I too can't understand why you would want only NDL's. I use the Atmos ai and I barely even look at air pressure. I use the dive time remaining almost exclusively. It's just so utterly meaningful and convenient. Just seeing NDL's are only worthwhile if you like to do some sort of math/guesstimations underwater. Give it a fair chance.

As for the software...... now there you are right on. Aeris definitely went with the low bidder on that one.
