I used a military duffel for my sidemount setup. Dirty green looking. Works perfect when I need something of that nature.

I’m a big fan of the Stahlsac duffels, however they are mesh on the ends and sides. I like them because for multiple day trips, I just drop the whole thing in the rinse bin and am good to go. The material is quick to dry and is a pretty sturdy construction. I actually prefer the mesh as it allows the gear to breathe while it’s in the bag, but to each their own.

I too swear by my Stahlsac bag. I’ve been using the same bag for every dive for the past 15+ years. No tears, no broken zippers, and no sign of it needing to be replaced anytime soon.

This is a great mesh bag. We have two - one for each of us.

We put them in Mako's Freedive Gear Bag for airline transport and load them up. We can get both sets of gear in one inner mesh/outer nylon bag but we usually end up bringing both sets of bags and put our laundry etc in them for the return trip.

Wow thanks for the positive feedback! I'm glad the bags are working out for you and your wife.

The bags are truly awesome. Very well built. Packed full of the usual scuba gear and miscellaneous stuff it comes in under 50#. We have the older version with the adjustable length end cap.

Nearly indestructable, although after one trip it looked like someone in the airport baggage handling area had dragged mine quite a ways and wore a couple of larger than quarter-sized holes in the bottom along some of the pressure spots from the edges of gear. I got some patch kits and patched them on the outside and inside and it is still as good as new! A couple of times I could tell that they even tried to grab or haul it from the end with the adjustable end, and it never tore or pulled loose.

And even though we don't spearfish, it's pretty cool having your logo on the side, because it has started so many conversations with people as we travel!

My brother had the perfect gear bag IMHO. It unzipped flat, so you just stacked your gear on it and zipped it up. No trying to stuff your BC past your fins etc. I haven't seen a bag like that for years now.

As for me and the wife, we each have a mesh Stahlsac. Tougher than they look. I've had the plastic cinch on the strap break once and they sent an entire new bag. They work well. I've been through a few of the "cheap" versions of mesh bags and the Stahlsacs are just made of better stuff. We'd get a few seasons out of the others and then toss them. Had the Stahlsacs for at least 4 seasons and show no signs of stopping.

Seriously.

If you have a good luggage solution and just need local transport, this is it.

$0.99

(There’s also a zippered one, but the zipper arrangement seems odd to me and I haven’t tried it. It’s also much more expensive, at $5.00. FRAKTA storage bag for cart, blue, 28 ¾x13 ¾x11 ¾"20 gallon - IKEA US)
