I kinda have a hard time thinking of poachers as fellow divers. Glad the PD was ticked off. Maybe they'll do more random stops at the Point to check for divers taking shorts.

BTW, are any of the ones taking shorts SB members?

Decapo--

That is absolutely AWEFUL!!!!! Like GFISHER said all CT divers are not like that. I hope that the idiots who took the lobsters illegally get caught as well. If you ever want to dive CT again let me or Devils_Advocate know, we go almost once a week. We haven't gotten a license for this year but it is always fun just to go and see what is new in the water. We on occassion make it up to MA as well for some great diving. . .and of course deco drinks. :)

By the way, does anyone know what the admin's opinion is on diver's breaking laws?

First off. It was great meeting up with you and thanks for helping me with my gear ans sticking around until we were on our way to the shore. Bill, Earl and I did get 2 real good keepers. I understnad from your message that the guys in the pickup truck took shorts. Well if this is the case. They wont be diving near me again. Some of us were joking about grabbing any lobster but that was only kidding around its been an old joke since our crayfish catching days. I can't believe they actually took shorts; and if they did, you did the right thing. Really sorry to hear that you were discouraged on your first CT dive. I'm glad Bruce was a great buddy to dive with.

Did any one see some one with short lobsters? I was the last one out of the water so i missed what happend. I just want to make it clear that i had two legal size lobsters. Decapodiver was all ready gone and the guys in question where still there. I told them that i had two nice lobster and thier coment was that they where going to get their lobster license soon. As far as i know the only lobsters taken where the ones i caught. After reading decapodivers thread tonight i called one of the guys in questoin and he sad that they didnt take any lobsters but that they did make the coment that decapodiver thread listed about how to measure lobsters. I dont know if decapodiver saw them with lobsters or if he based his thread on here say. I pm decapodiver so ill wait to hear what realy happed.

Yea Bill get us filled in on what happened. Is decapecod diver refering to us or the guys in the pickup. I'm confused here. I didn't see them with any lobster or a lobster bag. I am wondering if there was another pickup truck or did they lie to us when they said they had no lobster. Did decapecod diver actually see them with a bag of lobster. If so they needed to wait for us to check and measure and carry their catch since they were on another divers license. Lets get this story straight. What did decapecod diver actually see. I phoned and emailed Bruce (no reply yet) because he must have seen something also since he was decapecod diver's buddy.

Please keep me informed. Something quite fishy is going on here.

All questions were answered. Just waiting to talk with Bruce and get some more feedback. In my 5 yrs of night dives, I've never encountered a problem like this.

Wasn't there, but just an interested party........from decapod's postings, it looks like he called Stonington PD and the DEP yesterday morning. Doesn't say if he called Hartford or the Fishery Division in East Lyme. It looks like he called on the guys in the pickup. Best of luck sorting this one out, guys!

On a side note, so you can take bugs after dark in CT?

In case any MA people don't know, we can't - if you have some lobster you need to be out of the water 1/2 after sunset, but, I would not risk cutting it close.

You are 100% correct. Most lobstering done by divers in CT occurs after sunset. We and other dive shops hold special night dives just for lobstering. It is great time for all as long as all rules are obeyed. The DEP frequently visits Stonington Point and the Waterford Boat Launch were most of the lobster diving takes place in CT.
