Over the past couple years, I've made several attempts to find the owner of a SINGLE Mares Quattro fin that I found on Cape Ann, MA.

It's blue, size Regular, and in like-new condition.

I notified the local police and local dive shops at the time found.

I put it out on eBay at a high price to avoid sale but to possibly notify the owner.

I posted the same to usenet.

I posted this same ad on ScubaBoard in Feb 2007.

So, I'll try again now with the hope that the owner will contact me and just provide the date and location where it was lost.

Then it will then be theirs again! :D

However, (deep, sinister voice)... :14:

If no owner turns up within a couple weeks, I'll try to sell this solitary fin or buy an identical orphan to create a pair for myself.

So, let me know if you are the original owner by providing confirming info.

Or let me know if you have a similar single Quattro to sell to me or if you'd like to buy this Size Regular like-new blue orphan ($30).

Thanks in advance.

what if you didn't find "identical" one?! e.g. yellow?
will you dive them?

...just kiddin'

Sure! That would create the "Special Highly Individualized Terminal Full-contrast Identification Now System" that can greatly improve buddy recognition.... ;)

They would actually compliment my other gear quite nicely, since most of it is also "specialized" custom equipment. :D

I don't know.... The DIR guys tell me that your fins must not only match each other (black) but also those of your dive team (black) for proper safety.

Usually that's the rule, but I looked this up and found there's a special exception that allows the wearing of sub-optimal fins when it aids the team in identifying and monitoring the "weak link" team member.

Mixing yellow and blue fins would be perfect for me.... ;)

OTOH, non matching fins can help knowing your depth, color loss - that is :)

Thank you for the additional rationale!

I have added it to my long list of [-]excuses[/-] scientific reasons I can give when rudely pressed for explanations about my diving and/or equipment. :D

Indebted.

good luck with your quest for the single finned diver

Call Mares tell them you lost a fin; they may send you the other one.

I think you already have the right idea. You've already invented an acronym for it. Now you just need to build a diving philosophy, create your own training agency, start a gear brand, and market the heck out of it. Soon you'll have a band of fanatical followers.

It has worked before. :D
