Steel 72 are 3AA code tanks. These code has been in effect for many decades and it covers a large portion (if not the vast majority) of industrial cylinders.
IMHO changing the codes just like that would be an economic disaster for the gas industry in this country.

The probability of such a change is so unlikely...

Thanks guys. I'm picking up my tanks tomorrow and will swing by the other hydro shop to see what they have to say.

I'll give you 30 bucks for them. :D
Steel tanks are good until they fail hydro or vip.

Make sure your LDS lets that testing facility know, that you are taking them to another facility to get tested. Some hydro facilities will put "XXX" over the serial number, basically condemning the tank.

Holy Crap, that would be a bad idea to do that to my tanks.

If they want to violate federally-mandated test procedures and intentionally destroy my property, they're welcome to do so. I can buy a lot of new tanks with what it would cost them to settle and avoid rolling the punitive damages dice.

Each or for both?
I will sell you out of hydro 72's for $30 each, how many do you want?

What "Rule" book is the shop referring to? There is no specific rule book. Is he referring to 49 CFR? 29 CFR? Is he referring to CGA Pamphlets? Is he referring to a special permit/exemption for certain tanks? All of these are references we use and fall under. As a hydro tester, I would like to know what rule he is referring to since I have never heard of this for scuba tanks and I try to keep up on any new information.

The LDS already took them back from the hydro place. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if they X'd my tank. I hope not...

I have no idea what rule or book they are referring to. That's just what the LDS guy said. I tried calling them a few times (Collins Fire in Dallas area) and no one picked up and no machine.

Hope I'll have better luck at the next hydro tester.

Just tried to get an old steel 72 hydro'd. LDS just called me to say that tester told him they wont test steel tanks over 25 years old now. Tester even showed him rule in the book.

WTF?

And the never ending tank insanity rolls on. How do they come up with such BS.
