Just tried to get an old steel 72 hydro'd. LDS just called me to say that tester told him they wont test steel tanks over 25 years old now. Tester even showed him rule in the book.

WTF?

I’m guessing someone is either confused or prevaricating.

There are some "high pressure" gaseous fuel (e.g. CNG) tanks with 25 year (and shorter) ends-of-life – but that’s an entirely different matter.

I haven't heard or read anything about that and I doubt it.

I'll also find out since two of my old 72's are due for hydro this month.

The guy at the LDS was surprised by this too.

I'll have to call a hydro tester later to confirm again.

I had two 72s done last month with a original date of 67. I had no issues.

Seems like someone wants to sell you new tanks...just saying.

I had 4 steel cylinders in for hydro last month (all from 1958- 1960). All passed with Plus rating.
As others have said find a new hyro retester.

The LDS was caught by surprise by this change as well. I think this is a very very recent thing. The tester even showed him the "rule" in "the book" to prove it to him.

FWIW, the LDS takes it to Collins Fire in the Dallas area. I'll probably take it to another one (Koetter Fire) and see what they say.

Until he shows you the "rule" in "the book" -- or gives you an actual citation you can look up -- I call bull:censored:. Like many other people, I've got LP72s from the 50s that just came back from hydro with flying colors.
