Based on some recommendations, I tried using the Rustoleum bright galvanizing compound#7584. I wish I had my time back. This stuff goes on well, but it is soft, soft, soft. I let it cure the full two weeks that Rustoleum calls for and it is still just as soft. Cardboard will dent and scratch this paint. To top it off, you CANNOT put an enamel product over it. You can only use a latex paint or, according to Rustoleum, the paint will come off in sheets in about 6 months.

Try something else. This stuff is not well suited to scuba tanks.

Get ZRC Galvilite.

Have you tried the ZRC product? Do you know if it dries hard, like an enamel? I'm stripping the Rustoleum junk off now and you can scratch it off with your fingernail. Really poor product. Can you cover the ZRC with a can of regular spray paint or does it require covering in latex (soft) paint too?

The ZRC works about as well as you could possibly expect from a cold galvanizing compound. I wouldn't paint over it at all, but it can be painted over with a variety of paints. I think it looks okay as is. I used the spray cans, next time I'd get a quart and roll it on.

I have tanks that were painted 5 years ago with Galilite and they have never scratched or peeled. Buy it in a quart can and roll on 3 coats with a foam roller. The spray cans are not coast effective on something as large as a tank. It takes too many cans to get the proper coating thickness.
