I've heard that steel tanks can vary in length quite a bit, but all my sets of steel doubles have been matched pairs from the same batch, so I'm curious how much we are talking about.

I have a single PST lp104 collecting dust in my dive locker, and I would like to find another one and double them up, but I'm curious how hard it will be to find one close enough in length that it will be a good match.

Any input is welcome.

I've seen half inch plus discrepancies before, it's funny to watch people sit lopsided with doubles. Half inch may not seem like much but across the doubles they do slant funny...
You can scout around and I've seen it done before, so it's not impossible, just difficult... Getting accurate tank height measurements can also be difficult depending on who is measure and how...

It may look funny but it really doesn't make a difference. Properly installed tank band handle the stress.

The difference is that it's WRONG.
Face O ring manifolds are crap and blow if you look at them funny.
Or when the shop dude assembles them without grease
galls the threads slips off the nuts and drops them.

I've had same batch 1/2 inch, so you wait for the right tank.

And if you have to double them up yesterday wear boots and chock one.
