I have been told by a fairly reliable source that new steel scuba cylinders are getting very rare in the US and when the existing stock is gone there will be no more imported into the US for the foreseeable future.

i know that with Worthington exiting the scuba markete that leaves Faber as the main manufacturer of steel tanks.

Has the demand gone down so much for steel tanks that it is not practicle to import the tanks into the US or is this just a hiccup in the supply chain or possibility a way to control supply to increase prices as there is virtually no competition in the steel tank market with Worthington out of the market?

Any thoughts or perspectives on the subject?

It sounds like you're saying that even the Faber tanks are going away from the US market ?

your fairly reliable source is full of **** or is not a Faber dealer. PST went out of business, Worthington shut their scuba division down in Canada, but you aren't going to see Faber go anywhere.

I am not saying it is going to happen and I doubt that Faber/Blue Steel will quit distributing in the US, at least in the near future.
This is something I heard about the current supply of full size tanks, 85c/f & up and wondered if there was some validity to the claim.

complete BS. There is no chance they are going to stop importing tanks into the US..... You won't get hot dip galvanized, but if there was any validity to Faber stopping their imports the technical community would have known about it a while ago.... I would have your source go and verify his sources

complete BS. .... I would have your source go and verify his sources

From the sounds of it that might take a trip to the proctologist … but then again it is the scuba industry.
