It's really too bad that breakins have become common there, especially after the owners put all the work into the nice tables. They should do what Mayan Blue has done, and hire somebody to watch the cars -- I think they'd get more traffic that way. It's a really nice cave, and the first 12 minutes are a fun challenge.

How much did you discuss decompression on your course? Did you do any deco on the dives you did? I imagine it's a bigger concern in Florida, but I was curious what Protec does in the cenotes.

I don't know what Protec does, but we did simulated O2 deco on my Full Cave dives in Mayan Blue.

We did simulated deco on my Cave 2 dives in FL as well, right up until we got delayed on exit from Madison and had to do REAL deco :)

Lynne, what caves did you dive during Cave 2? There are very few caves I know of where training takes place that don't require deco at the end of a cave dive. I've even had to turn Intro/Basic dives on time so as not to get into deco!

I can dive Telford, Twin and Peacock without deco. Cow, Ginnie, JB, Manatee (tho I refuse to swim it), Hole In The Wall (hit or miss with deco), Little River, etc I always hit deco diving 1/3rds, without a stage.

I don't think I had a single cave dive during full cave where I didn't have close to 10-15 minutes of deco by the end of the dive.

We did two days at Ginnie, with "minimum deco".

One day at JB, but we didn't get very far.

One day at Hole and Twin. One of those dives was the one where I lost my fin, and we definitely went into real deco on that one.

One day at Madison, and we did some O2 time, but as I recall, it wasn't really needed. I'd have to go back and look at the profiles to be sure.

Why what? Why go into deco, or why dive caves? If the latter question, I can only say that the world divides into two categories. Those who don't understand why people dive caves, and those who don't understand why anybody doesn't.

What were the dive plans? Was deco planned into any/all of the dives? Hole is one of the caves I end up turning dives at the Intro/Basic level so we don't go into deco. As for the minimum deco, whether it's 5 minutes or 30 minutes, it's still deco. Most of my first few dozen cave dives resulted in minimum deco of 5-10 minutes. I still do occasional dives like that. Just went to the EOL in JB this week and had 5 minutes of deco when I got back to the cavern. What's the difference between "minimum deco" and "real deco"?

Rob,

Minimum deco is the term used for a safe ascent. IE what you do on a dive that doesn't technically require deco.
DIR-diver.com - Using the min deco table

Skills wise it's the same, but mentally you know you can surface at any given time. I think that seeing daylight and knowing you have 30+ minutes to surface is almost more mentally taxing on a new full cave diver than solid overhead.
