The government of St. Lucia has violated numerous
international treaties and agreements to which they have
officially signed, and officially opened a Sea Turtle
hunting season. The season opened today and already 5 large
turtles have been slaughtered. This decision defies logic
as there is no economic benifit to anyone except a very
small group of fishermen. The long term impact will cost
much more than any revenue generated.

On one hand the St. Lucia Tourisim Board is promoting Eco
tourisim and turtle watching programs and on the other the
Fisheries department is giving into the pressure of a few
outdated, narrow minded fishermen to allow this illegal
    practice to take place.

Please take a moment and contact these St. Lucia officials
and tell them to stop this senseless slaughter of these
critically endangered animals and please tell all of you
friends to do the same. If they think that their touisim
dollars will be reduced they will put a stop this absurd
    behavior.

Please help us to put the pressure on these and other St.
Lucian officials. They will not be swayed by those of us
who are here. The noise must come from the international
comunity. If the toursim product is threatened they will
respond and shut down this and other environmentally
destructive practices. Right now they are counting on the
out of sight out of mind thinking and hoping that no one
notices what they are doing. Please, call them on it!

    Thank you for your help.

Sent my e-mail. I'm very dissapointed. I guess that rules out one of my new favorite dive spots.
