Is the SSI course respected (or gaining respect because it is rather new) within the tech community? I've been lurking on deco stop for a almost a year and occasionally I see divers wanting to tag along on dives and being asked about credentials.

Its gaining momentum here, at first alot of folks just didnt understand the program, once the program is explained (correctly) I havent found any objections to it. Of course once you go through the course, your credentials build by experience.

Does anyone have any feedback on the quality of SSI's tech courses? A local SSI shop is having Steve Newman, the author of the course material, in town for an overview of the program and I'm planning on attending. Here in the Midwest there are not a lot of choices for tech courses. Thanks for everyone's input.

At Divetech in the Cayman Islands which is a SSI International facilty will teach SDI/TDI & IANTD for the diver interested in going Tek, especially if you are thinking about rebreathers in your future. At the end of their course you get both cards because their Tek instructors are certified with both. Nancy says it's is nice to have both these cards so you can go any place in the world tek diving. My wife and kids did their SSI open water dives and I completed my SDI/TDI & IANTD Advanced Nitrox certification on a Kiss Rebreather (the first few days was Open circuit twins). No bubble diving with a 3 hour run time is awesome beyond words and now my boys want in on this when they get old enough. I'm so excited to be able to go CCR divng with them in the future...

I was just reading your post on another thread, TEK DIVING: what agency??, and have Divetech's website open on another tab. Since you've been there I have a question for you. What time do the classes finish up each day. When they say a 4 or 6 day class, are they 9am - 5pm days?
