When can we expect them to hatch? Will they be there a few more nights?

I'm guessing they were laid from wednesday to saturday. Claudette read that they hatch in 10-14 days. I'm guessing they should be there for at least a week or two, they are pretty tough. unless something eats them all :)

Look at the eggs on the left-bottom of this basket in the pic - see how they're a different color and different consistency? These are the older ones that will likely pop end of this week, maybe early next.

All of the brighter white ones were probably inserted on Thursday or Friday.

If you get real close to the off-colored ones, you can see how much the eggs in the case have swelled. There are eyes forming, and you can even see them move as they get closer to popping.

Claudette filled in the rest. However, I respectfully disagree with her. I believe this is an event that should not be missed at night. The spectre of glowing eggs slowing rising out of the canyon murk is most creepy and memory-etching at night.

I shot a zillion shots last night. I'll merge them with the shots I got the very moment the run started on Wednesday night and post them someplace in the SoCal room later this week.

The view down the canyon. Some left overs hovering over the baskets, lots of dead squid amongst the thousands of egg cases

Laurel, there is a group of a dozen or more that are there every Wednesday night beginning around 6-6:30. Hopefully we won't get enough rain to muck up the vis.

EVERYONE - I cannot recommend enough DrB's two articles on the Squid.

With his permission, I'd like to right click and paste into this thread for our SoCal (and SB) crew to more easily find and read (for those who are link averse) the content of his two excellent articles.

For those of you who are not link averse, click on and roll about in the Squidom of the brilliance that is our own SoCal treasure, DrB.

Seriously - the stuff rocks.
