I have a new Mares Proton 12 that squeaks. I realize that many regs make noise when they are out of the water but mine is noisy in the water too. My dealer says it will work it self out and since it is winter in the NE, I have not been diving. I was wondering if anyone has some experience with a squeaky reg.

Sorry if this question sounds like a newbie wrote it or if the answer is obvious. If so it's because Ima n00b.

My proton did that when new. Once I was in the water it did stop, only to start again when on land. After several dives, it pretty much stopped all together. No need to apologize for asking a question...that's what we all do here.

Oh, welcome to scuba board!

I have had MR 22's that do that too, it has something to do with one of the springs in the first stage and their alignment.

Reassembling them can help if you are brave enough or qualified enough to do that, but it will often work itself out. if it dosent, keep hassling the dive store until they make it good. I would keep an exact log of use and performance until you are happy.
