Just like on the old Top Gear when they ask, "what could possibly go wrong," before everything goes wrong. There is a great deal from DFW to Cancun in late October. The search function has not had any comments since 2009 on Spirit. Have they improved, or does everyone that travels frequently avoid them now?

It's a one way, non stop flight so no luggage transfers and it arrives at 3pm. There is plenty of time that even if it takes off 2 hours late, there is still time to do the bag drag and catch the ferry. The fare is less than 1/2 tan the closest competitor, 20% of the cost of some.

So, how bad can it be? If you have flown Spirit out of DFW, I'd like to hear your comments. We travel with 2 checked bags and a backpack carry on with regulators in it. Both checked bags are legal size on American and will be under 50#.

Thanks in advance for your response.

you'll get from pt A to pt B, just be prepared their seats are pretty uncomfortable. practically impossible to sleep in. on time performance is somewhat reasonable from my experience, longest delay was maybe an hour or so not including when i got stuck for 3 hours last year due to weather. I have flown oak -> dfw and back on spirit a few times because i couldn't find another ticket to get home for thanksgiving/christmas. now that virgin has started flying sfo -> dal, i am trying to avoid taking spirit even if it costs me more money.

Yup, at $50 per bag, each way, the baggage bill is as much as the flight. I knew there had to be a catch. Thanks for your responses. I think they would charge for our carryons too.

If you are thinking about doing the bag drag don't forget to look at Southwest, no baggage fee. They don't show up on the search engines so you have to go to their site. Another option is to book a multi city flight, fly into CUN and out of CZM or the other way around. Flights look kind of high right now, I have heard 60 day out is the best time to book but you never know. Might see you there in October but I don't know if I can wait that long.
