I've got a few questions. First, what happens when you set the internal strobe on manual 1/64th versus full? Try taking a hair dryer to it for 15 minutes blowing air through the battery compartment and memory slot. Maybe condensation is your problem and its in a place causing an electrical short. You might also check the battery compartment for corrosion or obstruction.

Gary,
Thanks

As long as the flash is on, it will take approx. 1 minute to be ready regardless the flash power.
I am not quite sure if that was condensation or small leakage. I forgot to taste the water. The first thing I did when surfaced was to remove the battery & card, dried the compartment with hair drier.
The battery compartment and memory slot is in good condition; no corrosion or obstruction but not sure on the inside circuits; I have no confidence to open the body.

This certainly sounds like an electronic malfunction so I don't think opening it would do you any good. Maybe its time to open your wallet for an upgrade.

Thanks gary,
This is my backup camera; I have G9 too
I have contacted Oly Singapore - I'll hv biz trip next month to Singapore so I can bring along my oly and let see what they can do, or to upgrade as you said. If I hv to upgrade; too bad, very likely will not choose Oly as now they don't have comparable or better product on P&S.

Finally I can manage to send the camera to Oly service center - they inspected and advise est. cost for service (warranty long overdue) + spare parts is approx. USD 250 :shocked2: no way
So, I looked at e-bay, won the auction for half this cost - but too bad, the seller refuse to ship to outside US although before bidding he confirmed to ship to my country :depressed:

Great!!!! I know they are slow to recycle, but I love mine....It's small and very versatile. I live in fear of a flood cuz, then I would have to make a decision......

Olympus factory service center (the main US factory, not an independant) has a fixed rate for ANY repair, it was around $125-150 if I remember right.

The flashing yellow light means yeah, you've got problems or issues, typically a button or contact is sticking or corroded?

And yes, Li-ion batteries are the only way to go, even with the firmware upgrade, Ni-cads just wouldn't last. Li-ion packs available on ebay for cheap. like $6 a battery pack, and mine last for hundreds and hundreds of shots.

Rocky
Thank for the info.
Indeed the repair cost is fix. ie. USD 60 only plus the spareparts total approx. USD250.
Anyway, I got my SP-350 from ebay, used mint condition, for half that cost
can't wait 10 days for my next trip to P. Weh - hope superlucky to sight the megamouth there.

1 still have 2 SP with me and I am looking for a casing for it now...which so hard to comeby nowadays.

Use a CR-V3 battery and you wont go wrong with it. Get the rechargable one...I have 2 Uniross CR-V3 battery since 2006 and still using it till today for my SP-350 for UW..can last 3 dives...no problems..:)
