At least you wont have to deal with all the UXB's that were dumped in the deeper waters near Hope Island. Apparently there's quite a few that were moved from the Mapledawn.

Groundhog246:
Except for some areas, such as around Hope Island and off Wasaga beach, most of Southern Georgian Bay is DEEP, much deeper than us recreational type divers should venture. The channel between Christian Island and Beckwith exceeds 300 feet. So except for those few that sank close to the islands or shoal areas, any others will probably remain lost.

d33ps1x:

Unexploded Bombs, the Mapledawn was used for bombing practise by the RCAF in WW2. I was told that a lot of UXB's were found there by divers who first explored the wreck. They lift bagged them to the surface then towed them to where the depth finders said it was very deep and cut them adrift in deeper waters.

UXB's ?
Was there a secret X goin' on up there?

Are you sayin' that perhaps Area 51 Canadian style!!

Where's Fox & Dana? eh!

Well supposedly if you rub the nuts on the Mapledawns boiler you get lucky, One guy tryed it and got into a major row with his missus when we got back to shore so I doubt he got lucky that night.
Is that Area 51 enuff?

Its no secret really. There was a war, a rather big one , Canada trained a lot of pilots for the Allies , the Mapledawn made a great target in an easily accessible out of the way place so they bombed the stuffing out of her. Even today alot of ordinance fails to blow up on impact so its not surprizing that later on divers found some around her that had failed to explode.

The secret 'Camp X' was actually in Oshawa. Shhh... don't tell Mulder
