Hi. I recently got my tank (Catalina 80) Vized. Yesterday when I went to pick it up I heard something rattling around in there. I think it must be the tube that hangs from the valve. I called the shop and they're going to charge me to open it up again. Is there any reason I should be conserned or can I dive it AS IS?

THANKS

I wouldn't dive it until it's been checked. There shouldn't be anything loose in your tank - and there's a non-zero chance that whatever is in there could cause a blockage at depth. Not good.

If that shop did the Viz (should have checked the tube) then they should not charge you to open it up again! If the tank had a current Inspection, I personally would not charge even if I didn't do the inspection. It takes 2 seconds to fix and they can do it when you go in for your next air fill.

Seriously? I'd never use that shop again. What a bunch of jerks. Often times, we'd put something into a tank of customers we were pranksters with, like pennies. But we never charged them to remove the pennies. Geesh!

I agree with Wayne. You should not have your dip tube rolling around in your tank ESPECIALLY after a VIP! The shop needs to fix the issue at no cost IMHO. Good luck.

The DIP TUBE is a small tube that dips down into your tank. It's purpose is to act as an air intake for the valve and is extended so that if something is in your tank, and you go inverted (head down) that your intake of the valve won't get blocked off.

see #15 below on the image.

Items this might be include a rust flake, some dirt, oil (from compressor), or water (moisture from fast tank fills or poor compressor filters).

I agree with the others, that if I got charged by the LDS for another inspection and air fill after they had just VIP'd it and the dip tube fell off, that I'd be ticked. They should have made sure this was tight when they inspected the tank and valve.

First rule of any business is that the customer's property goes out in the same of better condition than when it came in. I would take it back to the shop and ask for the owner. If it was the owner who said they would charge you then I hope you paid with a credit card because they did not properly inspect your cylinder and I would not hesitate to dispute the charge.

If it was not the owner that said it then I would tell them the story and which employee it was. Hopefully after they fixed the problem. Which as many people have said it was probably the dip tube that came off which is a simple fix.

I enjoy a good prank as much as anyone, but I'd be a bit ticked off if I came to pick up a tank with a something in it. Especially if the "something" wasn't O2 clean, or if I was in a hurry and didn't have time to wait for it to be removed and refilled.

Yeah I would talk to owner. I can't imagine anyone running a business like that.

well at least you didn't paint it pink and put Hello Kitty stickers all over their tank... IJS....

yeah... I can see someone getting ticked if they had to wait to get it emptied end refilled for a penny. even if it was from a LDS you were friendly with. I mean sometimes you're in a hurry and just barely have enough time to get in/out of the LDS to pick up your stuff.

I've seen several LDS that would do that. never underestimate some of them... :rofl3:
