I'm new to scuba and have recently aquired a us divers(aqua lung) conshelf 21 first and second stages. Can you guys (with infinite wisdom and opinions) tell me what you think of these regs. The good, bad and hopefully not to ugly. Thanks in advance

There's a huge discussion going on just down the page a bit.
More info than you could ever want.

The first stage is a very old design, with it's roots dating back to the Royal Aquamaster double hose reg of the mid 60s. The design may be old but it's well tested, proven and works well, do not assume that an old design is bad, there is a good reason USD has stuck with it for so many years. The present day AL Titans have almost the exact same internal design and use most of the same parts. The second stage is a pretty standard second stage, nothing fancy but again proven and well tested. Parts and service are available all over the world, not that they really require a lot of service. Many militaries use them. They may not be the best breathing reg on the market but it is a well tested and proven design. IMO, you could do much worse but not a lot better, esp. with the first stage.. You can always add a high performing second stage to the reg later and have a really nice regulator.

Hi spyder!
Well you have yourself a great reg.I have a few conshelfs,a 21 among them. They are what is
called "bulletproof" I have nothing bad to say about the 21. This reg has the same internal parts as the conny 14, the titan series, and a host of other great regs.AL/US divers had a winner and ran with it for 30 or more years. A great tread to read is "conshelf fans welcome"
Pay attention to HALLMAC who knows AL/USD regs better than most. Good luck with it, it's
a reg better than many newer models. PORBEAGLE

44 years and counting if you include the Royal Aquamaster double hose which was introduced in 1965.

Wow, thanks for the ego boost. I guess I owe you something special in your Christmas stocking for that. I'm not sure I am the resident expert here, but I have owned and serviced them for well over twenty years.

To the OP, you will find that what you were given breaths and performs as well as many of today's top regulators. The largest draw back to the design is the round first stage and hose routing. I think you will be please with the unit. If not, I promise it will sell quick.

Yes!!!!
I'll take another conshelf 14, a Royal Aquamaster {with phoenix nozzle},
an oxycheq wing, 2 pairs of jet fins and a blank check.
And many thanks HALLMAC this will be the best Xmas in years. :D
