I just don't log dives
Jaye and I are coming to NorCal for my birthday weekend this year.

Last year I dove in Monterey during our annual T-Giving in Cambria week. This year I'm gonna hang close to the family and stay in Cambria and do my NorCal dive over my Bday weekend.

We'll fly up Thursday evening (I think Jaye has a cough coming on and will be sick on Friday 11/19... poor girl) so we'll be up for the weekend.

Last time up I dove the Monterey Express and could not have had a better time. As I drove, I brought the Water heater (e8-130) and ended up doing both dives with it. As we're flying in this time (to San Jose) we'll be renting cylinders.

SO - I need some advice. I'm thinking we'll boat dive on Friday, beach dive on Sat and go to the Aquarium on Sunday. Or maybe blow off the beach dive, do the Aquarium on Friday when its a little more mellow, and boat dive on Sat, maybe beach dive on Sunday.

I dunno.

I was looking in my log - last year I did two dives off the ME - one at a place called Honeymoon reef (great viz, beautiful dive) and the second off of Monastery Beach (about 60 FSW - beautifUl canyons and pinnacles, great viz). As I recall we anchored right on the edge - where it goes from about 50 FSW to like a zillion. It was pretty cool - off the back of the boat was essentially limitless depth, and off the Port side was about 50 - 60 feet. We could see OW classes entering the water from the beach. So clear. About 52 - 54 degrees.

So how's the shore diving? Should we boat dive it on Friday AND Saturday? I got no clue - been up there once and loved it. Can't wait. Maybe a night dive - I'd love to squeeze one or two in.

I'm making our airline rezzies this weekend. I would love to see some of you. I'm pretty fired up.

Shore diving is good if conditions are flat, but if things kick up, you're left with
Breakwater and MacAbee. I'd reccomend boat diving. More flexibility in where they go.

Also, Monastary nees some specialized training on how to get in and out. The beach
is steep and exposed. It's not rocket science, but you need to do it with someone
who has experience there or you can get trashed or worse.

If you are going to beach dive and need to rent cylinders and lead, any of the
Monterey dive shops can fix you up, though you may need to let your fingers do the
walking a bit if you want a particular sort of tank and it's not an AL80.

Breakwater is a good place for a night dive.

Let us know when you'll be where, and we'll make it a party...My B-day is just over a week before you arrive...I'm sure I can convince the wife to let me dive...If you boat dive on the WE, I can join you...I can't dive during the week right now...

Ken, as soon as we confirm those dates lets make this happen. TCB!

We couldn't be more excited! Looking foward to finalizing plans today / tomorrow. It'll likely be shore diving Friday and boat diving on Sat. We'll see. As soon as I get it dialed in I'll post it.

See you all soon!

Yeah - I saw your Fall Tour schedule. Nice.

That would be great. Saturday is wide open right now - thinking of getting back on the Monterey Express that day. What do you think?

Friday will likely be Pt Lobos or something.

K

Looks like I'll have to pass after all...I can't dive Fridays right now, and I'm booked at Pt. Lobos Saturday.

Got my rezzies for Pt Lobos on Friday. We'll be there Friday morning for a couple of dives.

I'm still looking for a night dive Friday night - any ideas?

Saturday is looking like a boat dive - likely Monterey Express or one of the others. Anyone open to joining in? Shaka, whats on the menu for your NorCal tour?

Sunday is the Aquarium.

Happy Birfday to me!

Hope to dive with some of the NorCal creu.

Ken
