It just sucks because all the great places to dive in the indopacific have crazy people. Philippines. Sipidan. Etc.

Is there a reason people there should be any different? We have our quota right here in the US of A.

Good point. There was an attempted abduction here in town yesterday. Tackled a woman and tried to get her in a van.

I would be far more afraid for my safety in Tennessee than Indonesia....

Population of Jakarta: 10 Million
Murders in Jakarta: In 2009, police handled 75 murder cases in 2009, while they handled 86 cases in 2010.

Population of Memphis: 650,000
Murders: 176 in 2013

I would like to see where Elvis lived and eat some amazing barbecue , but Tennessee is full of crazy people.

Just sayin'.

Oh I've lived in Memphis. Bullet came through my window one night...

Leaving for Indonesia in two weeks and the US in three months. Guess which trip I am more concerned about in terms of my safety?

Just plan to avoid the real trouble spots and keep a low profile - and by that I mean while travelling through the US by land.
