I work on Edgewood Arsenal, MD. I managed to get to work last night just in time to hear about the $1000 fine for anyone driving on MD roads during the state of emergency. Now I wonder if someone will brave the roads to come relieve me!

I just walked outside. We have about 2 ft on the ground, and IT'S STILL SNOWING!:boom:

Today I was out doing service calls and I heard a Radio report say:
If you are driving on any roads in Atlantic County you are subject to Arrest. I made a bee line for home.
I wish it would stop....none of the OTHER drivers can handle it.

about 18 as of right now.

I escaped the snow when I left for college. of course for us at Lake Tahoe, 2' was a light snow, they didn't close school till about 4' and the towns never shut down. Our road crews were good.

and other solid-phase precipitation deprived locales. If you want to see snow, just point yourselves north and come on up for a visit. Umm, better fly in and let us do the driving - we also get this stuff up here called black ice (and it has nothing to do with cyberpunk). You'll find out steaks tasty (but alas, not chicken fried - haven't been able to find a decent chicken-fried steak north of Wyoming as yet), our oil local, our pickup-truck culture oddly familiar (a bit like in the Texas joke threads only with different tires), our exchange rate attractive and our hospitality friendly *plus* right now we've got all the snow you could possibly want to ski on, sculpt, fight with or stuff down the back of someone's jacket. :D

Sigh. If I didn't ski, I'd say "Trade you for year-round diving in the Gulf?".

It's odd what "heavy" snow means in different areas - we laugh at Vancouverites when they can't deal with a few inches of the stuff while those in Ontario and the Maritimes (also those in high altitude places like Tahoe and most of Colorado) laugh at us for thinking a foot of snowfall is a lot (ok, it is a fair bit, especially when the wind blows and it whites us out). We laugh sometimes when "warm" climates get hit with snow but it's not actually all that funny when there's too few plows and most of the drivers don't know how to handle the lousy road conditions. Stay safe and warm, all.

It is funny how different folks gauge Heavy snow. It really is not how much snow you get. It is how much money was budgeted for snow removal.
Around here you can not get most folks to go below the speed limit in 1-4 inches. Once it hits 6 inches they loose their minds and slow to 5 miles an hour. Anything above that and they have to close the roads to keep the idiots that do not even have tread on their tires from clogging up the streets and stopping plows. We do not have those great plows like in Montana or Upstate NY that can eat up and spit out VWs.
This does not include the florida transplants that pull over to the shoulder when it flurries or the person that just got a Sport utility vehicle and Says: Doh doh I can do anything...I have 4 wheel drive.

Remember ...4wheel drive makes you go but does nothing for stopping.
Just get the hell out of the way and let us rednecks that have had 4x4s since the beginning of time blaze the way.

Then again my cousins never had snow days off at their school. They did have mud week during the spring thaw though.
Floodwood Minnesota graduating class of 12 kids. 9 boys and 3 girls.....killer prom.

I'm with Cave Diver on this one. What is "snow"?
Hehehehehehehehehe!

I can say that now, for the last 3 years. I will conveniently forget about the previous 43! And ignore the fact that I won't be here forever.... Got to enjoy it while I can.

So, once again.
Hehehehehehehehehe!

rally still going to be held?:D

Here (north east NJ) we had "12 inches plus" at 10 am, and it is still snowing at approx .5-.75 inch per hour. ( At least that's how much fell while I cleared the driveway-not like I'll be going anywhere.)
Some of the neighborhood kids were ticked off that this had to happen on a holiday, so they missed out on a "snow day" from school. As a teacher, I partly agree with them.
Shovel well, and safely.:)

take care,
Mike

JUst finished digging out myself and 3 neighbors from our 18-20" in Germantown. To no avail. We ain't going anywhere until the streets get plowed and we've got 4 X 4's. Hearing we won't see a plow on the side streets until maybe Wednesday.

My son, daughter-in law, grandson and the dog are relocating from Georgia to Vermont this week.

They spent the night in NC because I95 was getting icy. But they said that they were better this morning so they are heading north until the roads get worse.

He is driving a fifteen foot U Haul and she is pulling a trailer on the back of the SUV.

I'm afraid if they get into the heavy stuff that there won't be any rooms available.

I guess you never stop worrying when you are a parent.
