I want to keep a snorkel for safety so it can be used when I go back to the surface.

Could someone explain me where and how it should be attached to the BC during the dive?

Thanks

Because it can be an entanglement hazard you don't wan tto have somewhere on your bc where it would snag or get hung up on things. Obviously attached to your mask wouldn't be good, it interfers with the long hose. I have seen divers place it under the harness back towards the tank so it is stowed and out of the way. but i think the best option would be to get one of those folding snorkels and put it in your pocket.

I personally just breath from my reg, as if I had no emergencies during the dive and had proper gas management, then I should have pleanty of air in my tank to breath from if the surface conditions were a little more than just wavey.

There are flexable snorkels that roll up nowdays that you could stuff in a pocket. Dont really know why you would want one though. Are you diving Hogarthian style, or just wondering about it? As this is a "DIR forum" -- it might not be aproprate to post this question here, as most "divers" here dont use snorkels. If you are than have at it. Just watch out for the Trolls...

LOL about the streamlined I wish bit!

Rat--if you do that-- and you had to use your snorkel wouldnt the knife slide off your leg? Besides isnt it easier and more streamlined to to put the knife on you webbing? I agree-- with other posters that it is not very safe to attach the snorkel to the outside of your body in an entanglment area--but what if you are diving in the open ocean-- folded up in a pocket if you insist on having one, might be safer, anyways.
However there are some that will argue that diving without a snorkel is unsafe unto its self. So who can say--except that where one is diving will determine if it is an entanglement issue.

Out here in So Ca--it is against the law to dive off a beach without a snorkel... I fold it up and put it in my dry suit's pocket.

Best place to store a snorkel whilst diving is in the car.

:) Somehow I don't think that's quite 100% DIR, which is presumably the answer the original poster sought since he posted it here in the DIR forum.

Would you post that elsewhere and expect some serious answers about not having the snorkel clipped to my mask :06: I'm fine with not 100% DIR this year, as long as I don't do cave/wreck Diving, it will be ok for now, 25% will be better than 0% ;) .

Thanks all by the way, nice comments. I'll become adicted to scubaboard.

I'm thinking about puting a pocket between the harness and the wing so I can grab it over my right shoulder without bothering too much the hoses.

Would that sound good ?
There's not a lot of room between the plate and your wing when it's fully inflated, and when it isn't, wouldn't the pocket float around during the dive?

Thigh pockets seem like the best choice since you'll be storing other gear there anyway if you go DIR.

The question is moot, since this thread seems to have been teleported out of the DIR forum without warning.

Yea, it would appear another FAQ on the purpose/intent of the DIR forum would be in order for the newer members.

Good point, for now with single tank there is a lot more space. When I'll be more DIR I'll probably stay with a Single but with a Dual valve, there will be enough space anyway. I'll figure out a way to prevent it from floating for now. I'm still a lot recreative, doing recreative, I'll adapt my equipment and dive acordingly during this time.

This is a good solution, I'll check it when I get used to working with pockets and other equipment. There is still lot of details to fix.

The best place to store a snorkel is in the trash where it belongs.
