I find the Aqua Lung Secure-Easy Snorkel Keeper with a button handy for quick changes. I often find it easier to pack when the mask and snorkel are not connected:

The one I got: Amazon.com : IST SN60 Semi Dry Top Snorkel with Purge and Splash Guard for Scuba Diving and Snorkeling (Black w/Clear Silicone) : Sports & Outdoors is large oval bore, clip-release, replacement parts can be bought separately, can be had for under twenty bucks... and it lives in the dive bag under the bench. Or in the truck, when shore diving.

I use a plastic cable tie around the snorkel tube, and then keep the snorkel clipped to my BC with a stainless steel fixed eye snap hook. Easy to unclip it for use on the surface and keep it handy on the BC to reduce drag underwater.
