Smartphone Dive Computer

Not only not interested for the financial reasons already pointed out, but battery life on smart phones already sucks.

Having one with the display turned on throughout your dive is sure to eat the battery.

I would much rather stick to a PDC and bring a camera along if I want to take pictures. My phone sitting high and dry and ready to be used when I want it.

iphone 6+??? just where the heck are you going to put that on a diver? Consider the added size of the case and depth sensor.

Something I might consider for my older iPhone, but the housing would have to be reasonable for the Beta, I have seen something like this before and the housings started from 500 USD and went up not including the wireless transmitter. I would not see many people purchasing this unless they did have an older phone laying around or money burning a hole in their pocket. Beyond that I would not see the average diver or Professional purchasing one of these as they can purchase dive computers much cheaper when you add in the costs of the phone, housing, and transmitter. If you were able to upload different software and really use the processing power of the phone, larger screen ect and allow for more options over other computers you might have a slightly larger market.

Also phone have a tendency to drain their batteries quickly when searching for a signal they cannot find, there should be a function that has a on screen notice to let the user know if they have not switched to airplane mode. People sometimes forget to do things before a dive and if the user is using it for both phone and computer I could see this becoming an issue.

Also you should post some photos of the housing, the depth ratings, and transmitter.

I might consider it on my S4 active with the case but I would carry my PDC with me. I am getting another phone soon anyway. Still skeptical of the use of this seeing how big phones are...but maybe. I also have to ask...how is it going to sense depth, temp and other things a PDC does?

Don't get me wrong Divenav, I love the concept but would need more info and would need to test it... A lot... Myself before I would even think of telling others about it.

How did you come out with this 10x?

Our target market are those divers that: a) own a smartphone, b) own already an underwater housing for their smartphone, and c) are already taking their smartphone underwater to take pictures.
In this scenario, adding dive computer functionality to their system will cost $189 (the price of our dive module). Did you pay $19 for your dive computer?

In a different scenario where a diver does not own the underwater housing for their smartphone, those are available for $90 to $190 (depending on the brand / model). So in this case, getting a camera / dive computer would cost $280 - $380. I still don't see the 10X.

We are not trying to convince diver to take their smartphone underwater. We just want to provide additional features to those divers (several tens of thousands) already doing so.

I just paid ~$850 for a 6+. Add in the cost of a case safe to 300 feet, plus whatever depth gauges etc that would be needed, and all I can think is "why would I risk my 6+, plus the multiple hundreds of dollars in case and sensors,.......

Don't worry about taking your 6+ underwater. You can't.
As far as I know, none of the manufacturers of underwater housings we are working with is planning to design an housing for the 6+
