ok, well... being a weasel, i talked this friend of mine who likes single malts to invite
me over for a tasting last night (Monday).

i had already tasted the Dalwhinnie 15 (a long time ago, so it doesn't count) and
the Laphroaig 10, which, i love.

my friend had the following bottles:

Old Pulteney 12
Highland Park 12
Strathisla 12

i still love the Laphroaig the best. i am definetely going to get a quarter cask bottle
(my friend says it's awesome).

my second favorite is the Strathisla 12. it has a sweet caramel nose, VERY smooth
palate, and a "sappy" finish that is very distinctive.

highland park comes next. like it a lot too, but a bit too rough on the palate for me.

old pultaney is my least favorite, though still a great whisky (i think). it's much
too harsh on the throat, but it does have a very "clean" and "fresh"
finish... like drinking water from a brook (that's just the finish). i guess the
contrast between the harsh palate and the smooth finish is nice.

anyway... there you have it... i think i'm hooked =)

Damnit, you've done it to me again.

Poured myself a glass of a new one to me - Connemara. It's a peated single malt irish whiskey and is quite good in my book (especially for $40 something a bottle). It's got the nice peaty character of an Islay with a rich almost sweet backbone.

If you ever get a chance to try one of the older Highland Parks, give it a go, Andy. Their 25 is my all time favorite scotch for any price.

The QC is awesome. Try a cask strength sometime, as well.

I opened a bottle of Ardbeg the other day. If you were here I'd offer you some, but you are not. I suppose I'll have to drink it myself.

El Orans:

HA !!!

If you hurry you might arrive before I open and consume the Caol Ila 12 and Bruichladdich 15.

I've had Caol Ila 18 and was nice. The Bruichladdich not-15 that I tried some time ago was also enjoyable. But so far I've not found anything more pleasing to my palate than the big 3 that lie "next to each other" on Islay.

Next time I am in the store I will have to force myself off Islay and try Talisker, Highland Park and Oban 14. That last because you recommended it to me.

Slainte.

You are so going to die... :light:

Smokey, slightly sweet, not as phenolic or as brash as Ardbeg or Laphoaig,
and nowhere near as smooth and silky as Lagavulin 16 but very nice.

I tried the Ardbeg 10 for the first time yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised. I might just have to get a bottle of that.

well, i know own two bottles:

Laphroaig 10 and Highland Park 12

love the Laphoroaig the best. it's got lots of personality, good flavor, nothing
subtle about it

the Highland Park is very lightly peated, smokey. it's awesome. at first
it seemed "harsh," but it has really grown on me.

i give the Laphoraig a 9 out of 10; the Highald Park is an 8 out of 10.
for less than $40.00 each, they're hard to beat.

I gotta shop where you shop. I think I am paying too much.
