ok, well... being a weasel, i talked this friend of mine who likes single malts to invite
me over for a tasting last night (Monday).
i had already tasted the Dalwhinnie 15 (a long time ago, so it doesn't count) and
the Laphroaig 10, which, i love.
my friend had the following bottles:
Old Pulteney 12
Highland Park 12
Strathisla 12
i still love the Laphroaig the best. i am definetely going to get a quarter cask bottle
(my friend says it's awesome).
my second favorite is the Strathisla 12. it has a sweet caramel nose, VERY smooth
palate, and a "sappy" finish that is very distinctive.
highland park comes next. like it a lot too, but a bit too rough on the palate for me.
old pultaney is my least favorite, though still a great whisky (i think). it's much
too harsh on the throat, but it does have a very "clean" and "fresh"
finish... like drinking water from a brook (that's just the finish). i guess the
contrast between the harsh palate and the smooth finish is nice.
anyway... there you have it... i think i'm hooked =)
