Single diver in Aruba, how safe are the operations down there?

I am a 54 year old female that went to Aruba i December with a non-diving family, and I went with Dive Aruba (divearuba.com). The most they take is 7 divers, and the dives were stress-free. The owner has dived for 40 years. I learned about the operation from this board.

You can read my trip report at http://www.scubadiving.com/tripreport7833226 for details about the boat, number of passengers, etc. During the week that we dove with him, several individuals (i.e., no dive buddy) joined in. I would have no concern doing the same thing with Clive.

Aruba was very nice!

I always dive with Romeo with www.nativedivers.com. A small operation, just Romeo and his wife. He only takes out 5 or 6 divers at a time. If you avoid Mermaid divers and redsail, you will be fine with any of the other operators.

I believe that Native Divers recently got a new bigger boat. I'd check to see how many people they are taking out these days...

I dove with Native Divers on the "new" boat and I think we had 8 divers max. Romeo is a great guy and haven been born and raised on Aruba can really give you the inside scoop on the island.

The boats location is south of the hotel zone and south of town but Romeo picks you up at your hotel and drops you off - Also if you are diving the Antilla they bring the boat up near the Mariott and leave from there

I reccomend his operation highly and will dive with him again should I return.

Oh yeah - It was only Romeo and his Mate on the boat and Romeo dives with the group. The boat had plenty roomy for 8, I dont remembr the size but it had a large back deck and a pretty big cabin downstairs to store dry stuff.

Unique Sports bought out Pelican Divers. They are now combined. I have been diving with Unique Sports since 1998. They always have someone in the water and are very professional. They go out of the Holiday Inn dock and the Raddison on Palm Pier.

Second the comments from mike_s "Red Sail has the negative reputation based on being crowded. Mermaid has a really bad operation reputation. The rest all have good reputations."
