I know the Similan Islands close on May 15th, but I will not be in Thailand until May 1st. How is the diving May 1 - May 15?

The diving should normally be very much ok, and far less boats so that is a pro IMO. The later in the month the bigger the chance though you wont be able to go to Richelieu Rock and Koh Tachai, but will be limited to Similans and Koh Bon.
