folks from my rescue diver class I just took were saying to spray down reg hoses with silicone after rinsing. Does anybody else do this? I don't recall seeing this in any other places on reg maintenance. Any advice appreciated.

It won't hurt anything but I have never run accross anyone who does this in practice. Save your silicone for things you really need it for.

It will make them look nice and shiney... but aside from that, won't do much for them. But it does make them look new. Much like armor all on tires.

Be careful where the silicone goes...Sprays with silicone in them will cause silicone diaphragms (and any other silicone parts) to expand. Plus the slippety nature of the stuff can help them unseat from the grooves they rest in. The combination of the two has bad written all over it.

Silcone spray is best reserved for things like tires and really has no place in regulator maintenance.

Thanks, that is what I wanted to know.

I used to do it once every year or so, but stopped several years ago. I don't think it really makes a difference in hose life, and replacing hoses is low cost and easy to do.

Additionally, some will get on your fingers as you handle the hoses and from there will make its way into your mask causing a fogging problem.
