Is he the guy who ran off to the Phillipine's? Yes, I think so, last year.

Chuck closed his shop?
Yeah, he sold half the shop to someone then moved to P.I., with Chuck not there both his shop AND Elephant and Castle went out of buisness.

I have as yet to buy anything since I have been here except for an air fill. I hate getting treated as a tourist that has nothing better to do with his money. Island divers (on the Air Force Base) would have the most of what I would be looking for (tech equipment), but I always leave a little angrier than when I walked in. And I'm still looking for a steel tank larger than a 72.
That would be who I was talking about. Three trips there, no answers and only one BP in the place. And just who are they to talk down to me?

......BTW...why aren't you here yet?? ;)

I wish I were there now. I came and went to Oahu in February for 16 days to entice my wife to move, then to to the Big Island in September for 9 days.

She is a dietitian at a research hospital in Tokyo and even though she complains about her job, she loves it. I can't bear to be the blame for why she "had to" quit her job.

I am still researching and believe I will be there within the next year. Just, how? I need to find a job that will support my wife and two small boys as well as my house in Japan. The mother in law lives in it and it will be hard to rent with this piece of furniture trolling through the house.

So, I'm still trying to find a way to win the lottery.

Chuck had his shop "for sale" for quite a while before it actually happened last year. I recall hearing back in 2001 that he wanted to sell and move full time to the Philippines.

Anyway, I was able to buy my gear from HSA before their inventory started to become more limited - if I was going to seriously look into a new reg right now, I know I'd have a bit of a problem.

Coral Divers is still working on setting up their agreements on what lines of gear they'll be able to sell - whenever I go in they have a little bit more. However, last I checked they hadn't yet had any of the manufacturers I'd be interested in.

Chuck in the Phillipines now? The PI survived the Huk rebellion, the Marcos regime, my various port calls there, Al-Qaeda on Mindanao, the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, and now Chuck Shumack? How much can one country endure?
There were lot of people who loved Elephant and Castle but it wasn't on my favorites' list.

What's up with See in Sea? Are they closing? You mentioned "selling out"??!!

Id wonder what it is they are selling? I have heard this rumor for quite some time.

Prices have come down for dive shops. When Dan's Dive Shop across from the Gold Bond building was up for sale in the early 90's, the asking price was $1.3 million with a bottom line net profit of $35K. It was uh, slightly over-market so it didn't sell.
