Sherwood shutting down NY plant
WHEATFIELD, New York (13 Aug 2008) Sherwood Valve announced it will shut down one of its three manufacturing plants in anticipation of a reduction in business.
Sherwood's decision to close its plant in Wheatfield, New York will put 138 employees out of work.
Company officials said it will take about six weeks to transfer manufacturing from the Wheatfield plant to two other plants in Pennsylvania and Cleveland.
It plans to add 10 to 20 jobs at its Cleveland plant, which employs 40 workers, and may also add jobs at its Pennsylvania plant, which employs 130 workers.
Sherwood Valve LLC is a division of Taylor-Wharton International and is headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
The company makes scuba diving products and valves for industrial, medical and propane applications.
