OK... another question regarding the "snotty-class" hotels behind the sand spit just south of Dahab... you know, the Hilton, the Swiss Inn, and now the new Dahabeyah...

As we all know, beverage prices are horrendous at Red Sea hotels like these. Understandably -- the logistics are tough. I don't mind so much the wine and beer prices... but the drinking water? It costs... what... about 8 EGP per liter bottle? Or more?

A way around that, normally, is to find a local grocery store where you can buy water for a quarter that price... and smuggle it back to your hotel room.

I know, Dahab is only 3 km away. But is there any grocery store near these hotels?

This is why you buy water in normal shop where 1,5 liter costs 1 - 2 pounds and take it with you to the hotel.
Normally beverages in the hotels in Sinai are expensive. As far as I remember there is no grocery very close to Hilton - as this hotel is a bit away from the centre of Dahab. But there are plenty of shops in Dahab itseelf.
OTH c'mon - 8 punds is 4 zloty :)

Mania--

I guess it's not 1-liter bottles... now that I think about it, the normal bottles are larger -- 1.5 or 2 liters?

And it may have been more than 8 EGP... all I remember is that the water prices at the hotels are horrendous; even by "Western" standards.

And you really do have to, like you say, find a "normal shop."

OK, I guess that's a good excuse for a taxi trip downtown!! :D

Hotels, I think, officially frown on guests bringing in their own food and drinks. We've always smuggled bottles in in rucksacks. I don't suppose it would be good form to carry cases of water in through the hotel lobby? :D

I never had this problem. Anyway I always carry a bottle of water with me becasue I drink a lot of water. So i simply have water in mu hand.

u simply drink whatever water u want during ur stay ouside the hotel, and on the way back to ur room, just get in with a bottle of water in ur hand, NOBODY can stop with a bottle of water in ur hand.
unless u plan to stay most of ur time inside the hotel(which is unlikely event), then it's gonna be a problem smuggling water.

Yes. You can find several Internet cafes in Naama bay, Shark's bay, and the old market as well.

Also u can find what's called "hot spots" -places where WIFI is avaible-, all u need is to get ur laptop with u, and enjoy the free internet while dirinking ur coffee, or having ur meal :)

list of places:
* Makani restaurant: Hadaba.. next to Sheikh Adalla super market
* Onions restaurant: Naama Bay .. behind CCCP disco teque
* Camel bar: Naama Bay .. just ask for it

Hope u enjoy ur time in Sharm El-Sheikh.

And most of the hotels also have at least one computer with the access to internet.
