I went with a semi-dry because I freedive for abalone and spearfish as well... it's a little cheaper than owning 2 suits. That being said, I'll probably be ready to move to a dry suit after hitting 30 in a few years! :P

I dove this past saturday with a Mares Isotherm semi dry in a 41 degree water in a PA quarry. I was very comfortable and warm, I did two dives both down to 65 feet. Got alittle bit of water in the boots and gloves but none in the suit itself. The first dive I did not burp it and had to kick to get down but was ok once down. The second dive I did burp it and got a bit of a squeeze at 60 + feet, it wasn't too bad.

Crosing,

How many lbs do you wear when diving the isotherm? The 10% of body weight +7 lbs doesn't apply and I'm curious how much lead people are using?

I have an excel 6 mm semi dry, attached hood, works wonderful. But then again I also have an underwater wetsuit heater:D

Still I'll never go dry, I love being wet!;)

The problem with semi drys here in Ireland is that you can very cold in between dives if you're wet. If you are predicting cold water, multiple dives with risk of wind chill in between, for god's sake stay dry.
having said that I think most divers here wear 2 piece 7mm semi drys.

I don't know if I've even heard of such a thing. To be in two pieces means you've got a major place for water to enter-exit.

A 'semi-dry' suit buttons up just like a drysuit - I don't get wet at all in my Mares Isotherm. Bone dry underneath - I could wear a t-shirt and jeans under there if I wanted to. Just like Crosing said - a little water in the boots and gloves, but it comes to a dead stop at the wrist and ankle seals.

Are you sure you just don't mean 2 piece wetsuits?

For the most part I stay bone dry in my isotherm.

Weight... 33 lbs with AL 80

I am 6' and 205: I also don't wear a lot of extra gear. Just the basics.

I stay completely warm in So Cal waters, I weigh 185 and wear 14- 16 lbs with a steel 95.
