This will be my first time in attendance. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can see, and meeting people in the diving community.

I have noticed similar posts saying it is not as good as it used to be. The first questions that come to my mind is "What needs to be done to make it as good as it used to be?" and "How can that be accomplished?"

I think you'll like it and have a great time. You won't have some nostalgic past experience to measure it by.

But I don't think it can be what it "used to be". For one thing, the internet has changed the industry. The internet is essentially a 24/7 trade show that allows you to browse the products and services of industry players all in one place, your home/office. While it's nice to meet people in person, trade shows are no longer necessary to bring together a wide variety of information in one place.

Another thing is that once a show has been around for awhile, many people have already been there, done that. It can still be fun but the law of diminishing returns applies.

You may regret putting a face to my name :D but I'll be working the CHUM booth #552 from 1:45pm to 4:00pm that Saturday, plus CHUM will be having a scuba social open to all at 7:00pm at Stag's Head Pub. We'll have flyers with maps at the show. I also plan to attend the TDI Wreck seminar at noon.

I'm heading down too, solo and am looking forward to my first one. Haven't seen a trade show since the old days of Dive Dallas....

Ann,

I'll be going down Friday afternoon and staying until Sunday morning. Come by the Kids' Virtual Dive Saturday afternoon if you're still around. I'll be volunteering from 12:45 until 4ish. I would love to see you both again.

FIRST THING i would do is move the show from the AstroHall complex back to the Hilton or another major hotel/convention center. Second set up more mini workshops for subjects like rebreathers, cave diving in Texas, Texas shipwrecks, local freshwater diving, equipment maintaince, underwater computers, ect. for the pubic to attend. Encourage major companies like Mares, ScubaPro, and Aqualung, to have both booth and workshops to present their current lines to divers who may not be familiar with there equipment because the shop they use don't carry that line of equipment. BRING BACK THE PHOTO CONTEST ...... also have a catagory for independent underwater videos to be shown and judged. Allow dive shops to sell merchandise to qualified divers at the show ..... many shops wouldn't like this because it encourages competition. Let internet retailers like Leisurepro, ScubaToys, Diver.com have booths to advertise there products. SCUBABOARD should have a booth with computers on line showing how easy it is to use the board and let vistors log on and try it for themselves. ..................
