I really like mine. I use a 1 gig card and regularly make sure my firmware is updated. The battery life is about 1 dive (an hour) and I have atendancy to keep the camera from going to sleep because I don't want to miss anything. We were at Pearl Lake on tuesday and shot some pics in not great vis.

I thought I had an issue with random firing of the flash but turned out to be my stupidty.

ohhh
nice 1999
I want the wide angle lens......

I own a DC500 and I love it, I had a film camera prior, and it was a reefmaster 35mm, I kept the strobe and wide angle lens from that and bought the DC. B4 I wasted so much film on pics that I did not know if they would turn out or not, now I can see and delete it if I don't like it.

It takes nice shots, is it a Nikonos ??? no.... but I did not pay for a Nikonos....

Reg strobe works fine with it, I am not a purist, and dont see the need to dial up/down the strobe, I just angle it if I want less.

Takes nice pic's above the water..

Small compact, well made, easy to pop in/out of the housing

I use a 1gb card, but I shoot in low res anyways, stupid to shoot hi res unless you are going for a poster shot, for sharing what you see, 1.2mb is fine.

Batteries ?? yeah, could be better, but I have 2 and an external charger, never ran out of juice on a dive, but I have not done any boat dives where there are more than one dive per day.

I live in the midwest in Wisconsin, and I've taken some awesome shots, it's one thing to say, yeah there is a 5ft northern, but when u show them a pic of it, then ppl drool.

For what I need, it suite's me fine, it does the job well, and I am happy with it. It's a nice "mid level" type camera and a nice one for a novice to start out with. It you turn into a photo addict, then go get spendy and buy the big buck stuff.

The new larger battery lasts longer.
I sent a second battery that never took a charge back and they sent me the new larger battery

What New Battery???
pm sent

With regard to camera freezing, not sure if this was covered, but some brands work better than others. When I first got my camera I picked up a 1 gb card on special at comp usa (forget the brand), camera locked up continuously. I called sealife customer svc and the tech said some memory is more compatible than others. Got a sandisk brand card, camera has performed flawlessly since.

I'm another who doesn't understand all the hate and discontent out there. I'm not a photojournalist, I'm a diver who wants to be able to shoot some pics once in a while without the camera interfering with my dive. For me the dc500 is perfect. I just wish I didn't already have it 'coz now I want the dc600.

With the yellow strobe you have some control over flash duration.. While in the external flash mode. press the flash button just below the midle button and a menu will appear,. it has setings for Far, Normal, and Macro. What that does is set the flash duration.

No need for the digital flash

Try it at a fixed distance - say 10ft - in the kitchen or some place and you'll see what I mean

Now I want the DC 600

I fail to see any thing wrong with a picture like this.
