Great shot mafiaman. I love my DC500,

Wow that's a great price on eBay, I just ordered one too.

re: mafiaman's photo
Why doesn't it show up on my screen? I don't see anything....?

I also have a DC500. Some external flash problems (inconsistant), but I think I have that figured out. Ya battery life a little short so I bought a second battery but with the external flash the colour are brillant and sharp. It takes a bit of practice with the three external flash settings (you can over expose), but for the most part, I'm happy.
I would love to share a sample but keep getting upload errors.

Regards

With the yellow strobe you have some control over flash duration.. While in the external flash mode. press the flash button just below the midle button and a menu will appear,. it has setings for Far, Normal, and Macro. What that does is set the flash duration.

No need for the digital flash

Try it at a fixed distance - say 10ft - in the kitchen or some place and you'll see what I mean

Now I want the DC 600

That adjustment is camera settings, ie. apiture and shutter speed etc. The yellow flash duration is the same no matter what those settings are.

Actually there is 3 different settings on the dc500 for the flash. Press the flash button just above the center button and a drop down menu appears. I did a series of doffernt settings and they do change the amount of flash. Not a ton but maybe enough to get the right setting...

I dont know why people run this camera down. I have 2 - 1 gig cards never had a problem and I went out and got 2 of the 750mah batteries and the travel charger. So with the portable 120v power surply I can dive all day charge batteries and have a camera for all the dives. This camera was designed as an entry level camera not as a pro setup. It does its job very well.
