This photo of the bridge of the Royal Evolution makes the case that 1) their entire instrument console is an afterthought and 2) whoever put the radar 10 feet from the helm might not understand what the radar is for. "Made by divers for divers"? LoL.
 
That picture is not the bridge proper, that is the flying bridge....
That's the bridge; you can tell by the window arrangement. There may be an open flying bridge above this. The round window arrangement the deck below are cabins.

With the NMEA Cables and standards, it's pretty easy to get anything to play on the touch screen infront of the wheel. Then the dedicated radar screen is just installed {or not at all} as a backup screen a distance away. Alot of big boats now have duplicated screens for passengers convenience so they don't have look over the captain's shoulders. In JUP/WPB here, alot of divers have the Navionics screen on their cellphone that shows the live reef map as the boat pulls up to it so they can understand which way they should "lean to" as they drift down the reef line. Bottom screens & NMEA technology are really cool to have and play with for divers.

{additional thought} I wonder what the draft (displacement) was on the Sea Story?

Of course we all know and many of us have experienced that salt water and Electronics don't mix.... no matter how well sealed.

Agree, how difficult would it have been to cut a new piece of plywood to reposition the electronics or even mount the radar above the helm.
 
Been reading this thread for a while tonight... Horrible news, I hate to see this.. I agree with a lot of the opinions here, it seems all too common in the Red Sea

I keep thinking, that I couldn't imagine being on a boat with 45 people, much less s scuba lob
 
The next time you find yourself in Port Ghalib or Hurghada, walk the docks and look at the minimalist tech that festoons the tops of the upper decks. I've seen more nav equipment on basic 30' American sportfishing boats than I've seen on any of the 20 or so Red Sea LOBs I've looked at. Might the military drive the electronics aspect of safety on these boats?

Here's a couple pictures I took from my trip on the Aggressor out of Port Ghalib last October. The Aggressor and the boat next to it have two satellite domes each so not sure how accurate this statement is. I think the accidents in the Red Sea have more to do with the building regulations at least for the capsized ones. Tragic no matter what.
