The last 5 years have been pretty tough. I can't vouch for the absolute accuracy of my spreadsheet, best I could do. I was on the RSA I for two weeks in 2016.

Holy crap. Yeah, there seems to be a clear safety issue, even allowing for increasing density of boats. What is a comparable destination? Maldives maybe. Certainly seems like there are lot less incidents there.

There are hundreds and hundreds of boats in the Red Sea and most trips are totally problem free.
Resounding vote of confidence. "Nothing to worry about. MOST Red Sea LOBs don't sink. You'll be FINE!"

I'd sure be concerned if I were booked on one of these ships. Just look at @scubadada's post above. WOW!! But hey, at least they are pumping money into the economy. o_O

There are hundreds and hundreds of boats in the Red Sea and most trips are totally problem free. I just had a fantastic week on the Daedalus, Elphinstone and Fury Shol route with Emperor with a dugong, two oceanic mantas, multiple spots of oceanic white tips at Daedalus and masses of dolphins at Sataya. Safety checks and fire drills were very thorough. But everybody said that this is a very windy autumn. It certainly was a lot more blowy than the two or three previous trips at the exact same time. Global warming, I.e. mankind, is highly likely to be the cause. Let’s hope the missing are clinging to each other or to a life raft and that they will be found in the coming hours.
Thanks for your reply. And yes most of all let’s hope they will find everyone.

They're a very maritime country, but I can't objectively say they're better or worse than Egypt as far as liveaboards are concerned. Personal impressions makes them look the same. Maldives adds dives with strong current; you will need to use a reefhook in the Maldives on some dives. This also means the boat needs to be sharp to spot everyone as they surface and pick everybody up. That does go wrong every once in a while.

This was my immediate thought reading your post.
