Sea-and-Sea-YS-D3-Duo-Review-Banner-V2.jpg

The Sea & Sea YS-D3 Duo is the latest strobe model, and it comes with a few new features compared to its predecessor, the YS-D3. The most significant change is that the Sea and Sea YS-D3 Duo now supports Olympus and OM System RC Automatic TTL Flash Power. This is great news for those who use TG, Pen, and OM cameras. If you already have a YS-D3, the power and beam pattern are the same, so if you are not using an Olympus or OM camera, there is no difference in performance.

At Backscatter, we take the testing of strobes very seriously in order to provide our customers with the most accurate comparison between different models. As there isn't any industry standard for measuring strobe performance, we rely on our in-house testing process. Our testing process includes underwater testing of the strobe's guide number and beam pattern using a professional light meter inside a custom-made housing. We also conduct on-land testing of the strobe's color temperature, recycle time, and flash duration using a light meter and a spectrophotometer in a controlled environment. With this information, we are able to compare all of the strobes we sell on an even playing field.

Thanks for the info, early this year i visited Cancun in Mexico, i was really amazed by all the packages i new all by MEXplor

i recommend to check it out

Quick question, I've found some D3 Duos at a local shop in Japan. With the yen/usd rate they're a screaming deal, but seem too good to be true. The shop is a really good legit shop, I've bought gear ranging from booties to regulators from them in he past, but even with the exchange rate, the lights come out to like $575 each.

Are there different versions of the light, or is there something I'm missing from the package deal? $300 savings is an amount of money that raises an eyebrow in my book. Even at a very reputable place. For Example they also carry the Inon GS-220, but with the exchange rate it comes out to $370, which is only about a $30 savings.

on the other hand, got my regulator for 50% off brand new because I bought a color that hadn't been selling well.

The SEA & SEA YS-D3 Duo Underwater Strobe is an excellent choice for underwater photographers looking for powerful lighting and flexibility in challenging environments. Here's a breakdown of its performance:
  1. Power and Output:
    • The YS-D3 delivers a high-intensity beam with a guide number of 33, offering excellent coverage even in deep or murky waters. Its robust power is ideal for wide-angle and macro shots alike.
  2. Battery Life:
    • With a longer battery life compared to its predecessors, the YS-D3 ensures more shots per dive. This strobe can fire rapidly, minimizing downtime for recharges or missed moments.
  3. Build Quality:
    • Designed to withstand the pressures of deep dives, the durable build is complemented by a user-friendly interface. Its compact design also makes it travel-friendly, while the improved ergonomics allow for easy adjustments underwater.
  4. TTL and Manual Modes:
    • The TTL accuracy has been further improved, providing precise exposure. Additionally, manual controls offer flexibility for photographers who prefer customizing their lighting setups.
  5. Beam Angle and Coverage:
    • With a wide 120° beam angle (with diffuser), it provides even coverage without harsh hotspots. This makes it a fantastic choice for both macro and wide-angle photography.
  6. Dual Strobe Capability:
    • The YS-D3 Duo model allows for synchronized firing with a second strobe, enhancing creative lighting setups and allowing for better control over shadows and highlights in the frame.
Conclusion:The SEA & SEA YS-D3 Duo Underwater Strobe stands out with its powerful output, improved battery life, and versatile lighting options. It’s perfect for serious underwater photographers who need reliable and consistent strobe performance.
