I realize that Scubatoys had an excellent reputation, but I would still encourage you to form a relationship with your local dive center. Getting dive certified is but a starting step. You will want to get further education and meet local divers, take trips, etc. Your LDS can arrange your training and connect you with others with similar interests. Obviously, they can provide your air fills also.

There's a lot more to diving than just buying gear - you want to be able to enjoy your gear by way of additional training and lots of diving...

This is not to say don't buy anything online. You can purchase wherever you want. I'm just saying don't forget what your LDS can offer you as well.

Unfortunately my lds is so ridiculous on pricing for everything including training. I priced an aluminum 80 with them this weekend ( I was going to buy 4 of them) they wanted $220 each plus 15 bucks per boot. That is only one of the purchases I have tried to go through with them. I refuse to be taken for that much of a ride.

Yes...Scubatoys is awesome.....but I gotta give props to Phil and the guys at Divesports too. Great prices and great customer service too!

I too have bought many toys from scuba toys.com. However there are certain things that I won't buy from them or anyone on the internet. These are tanks, regs, octos and bcs. That is because I feel that it is easier to get someone to service these items if I bought these items from the dealer. Servicing a wet suit is usually not as important as servicing a reg or octo.

Plus where would you buy your air if your local dealer were to go out of business?

10% Discount for Scubaboard members.:D

How do you use that discount? I don't recall seeing a checkbox that says "I'm a scubaboard member" during the checkout process.

There must be 5 million threads out there like this, but I always feel like chiming in. Scubatoys is great. For the guy looking for a wetsuit, divetank.com is also great and very good at guestimating what size suit you need over the phone (for drysuits at least - I imagine it's the same for wetsuits).

I am not a fan of scuba.com. I had a bad experience with them that did not get resolved until I got the better busines bureau involved, though it did eventually get resolved in my favor. They also take longer to ship and were never nearly as nice to deal with as Larry and his crew.

You need to call. I usually just ask Larry what he's going to do for me and it's almost always as good as or better than 10% depending on what I'm buying.

I second that about scuba.com. Had lots of problems with them! As far as LDS's if they keep charging outragous prices for there stuff, they deserve to go out of buisness.
