I have narrowed it down to either a Zeagle ZX DS-V or a Scubapro MK 17. I dive kinda cold, 40 to 50 saltwater. Anybody got any comments?

They are both great regs, very similar on paper. Balanced diaphragm first stages, enviro sealed for cold water, barrel poppet balanced and adjustable second stages, with all metal air barrels and heatsinks. Both work well in cold water, honestly, pick the one you like the best/is more common locally/is cheaper, and just go dive it.

One more thing to add. If you plan on servicing your regs yourself, Zeagle sell repair kits openly, Scubapro does not. Also I personally find the Zeagles to be amongst the most straight forward and simple regs to service.

Thanks Jim, I have my Zeagle BC in for repair right now. If this is how they treat their customers I will never get anything but Zeagel. I don't plan on servicing my regs myself, Scubapro gives free parts for life, but in real life is that a real cost saver in the long run? I also like the fact that Zeagles are made in the USA.

Check zeagleexpress they had flathead VI just recently in stock for the price of the DS-V, I doubt you will notive much difference between the 2 though. Zeagles worked nice for me in cold water so far.

Another vote for Zeagle (happy Flathead VI user, x2).

"Free Parts" Warranties on regulators are a hot-button topic here. The warranty for most manufacturers requires that you bring in the regulator each year for service.... miss the annual service date, and you lose the free parts warranty (but I've read that Scubapro will allow you to reinstate the warranty by paying for parts that one time....).

Labor is not free. Just the rebuild parts. The rebuild parts are worth (retail) about $50 or so for three stages (1st stage, primary 2nd stage, octo). The labor varies by region and shop, but an "average" figure seems to be $25 per stage = $75 or so total.

How important the warranty is to you is something you need to decide.

I currently have 8 regulator sets to maintain, sp I made the choice to learn how to service my own regs, and have been EXTREMELY glad I did.

I really appreciate the fact the Zeagle openly sells parts and tools to rebuild their regulators. Scubapro does not (you can find rebuild kits on the internet with a little searching, but this is really something that should not be necessary).

Have fun with whatever you decide!

ScubaPro all the way free parts and about $40.00 labor and all done. And you don't have to do any work. They just have to be in warranty and bought from a scubapro store.

That's exactly the same as Zeagle.

Does Zeagle offer free parts also, for life?

The question is is it has good as SP warranty for life?? I'm still working on regs under warranty that are 20 years old. Can that go back that far in there parts?? SP can and do. They have the best warranty out there. This is just my 2 cents.
