I'm not going to argue about it with you. Becuase I don't have to so you can what I offered or not I have been working on SP reg for the last 13 years. And have all of the books. This is enough about this. Good night.

I don't know why you're getting so bent out of shape. I asked you nicely to re-check your info on the seats, you told me to "read what you wrote", so I told you that your info was wrong. If you post wrong info, then instead of just acknowledging a very reasonable mistake, you make condescending remarks, this is what you'll get.

BTW, is it possible that you sold me a G250 about 5 years ago? I remember buying one from someone on this board from florida who was a professional reg tech.

I do not want to pee in anybody's Wheaties, but I'd have to agree with the Bluewater guy. I recently attended the Scubapro Expert Technician Clinic in Miami. The reason given for the minimum two shim requirement was to eliminate resonance from metal to metal contact between the piston and spring and the body in the MK 5, Mk 10 and Mk 15. I believe maybe the MK 8. This can be found in the book supplied by Scubapr, Jules Jewels. Don't ask me to show you the book, because in the technician commumity the book, Jules Jewels is like the secret handshake. If you want a copy, then you must qualify as a Scubapro Xpert Technician, not a shade tree mechanic. No disrespect intended.

So you are not going to be much help. Are you saying that SP is talking about installing shims (washers) between the spring and the piston??? Thanks fort nothing. What is a Mk8?

I honestly don't know about the two shims required bit, that's why I was asking; I've just never heard that before. I do know for a fact that the shims go -ll, -l, + in terms on increasing IP. What I have heard and read multiple times from multiple sources is that SP allows "up to three" shims on the MK5/10.

I also know that SP manuals are not always written in an easy-to-read manner, and that any manual can contain mistakes, like the order of shim sizes for example.

The idea of using a shim to dampen the spring is an interesting one. Personally I have never had one of my MK5/10 (or any friends' that I've worked on) make the resonance noise. I also use 90 duro polyurethane o-rings for the piston stem and lubricate it thoroughly.

I did not mean to piss anyone off or get on anyone's case by bringing this up. There is a lot of misinformation that gets posted about regulators, and one of the whole reasons I got into DIY was because of the incompetence of the local "professional" tech years ago.

OK, I had to look. It appears to me that the "+" seat will produce the highest IP, the "-II" will produce the lowest, with the "-I" in between.

......sssssshhh, You're not supposed to disseminate that info without the secret handshake.

Possibly what BlueWaterDiving meant is: "...the (-l) seat is to raise the Ip about 5 to 7 psi..." with 2 shims installed.

Since a shim is worth 5 PSI, the (-I) seat would be worth -5 to -3 PSI by itself; that would make sense and may get everybody back in agreement.

Still using the 2.5MM 1MM swing 0-ring size and still not dead.....

Even funnier I learned is you can actually insert the poppet completely 180 degrees the wrong way in the air barrel and something other than the poppet feet engage the lever and you can draw a breath from the reg. Have no idea what on the poppet catches the lever.. but it does. Stupid fact, but figured I would share...you REALLY have to be sure you install the poppet the ‘correct’ way in the air barrel and engage the lever because even rotated 180, it still works but.....
