Scubatoys has a great deal on the SP MK2+ primary. I plan on buying one to use with a pony/sling tank.

Does anyone have any NEGATIVE experience with this reg? It is being closed out because of reliability or performance problems? Or is it just "last year's model"?

it's a long-tried design, you won't go wrong with it

it's a piston reg, and i belive it comes with the insulation system (for cold water diving)

Great reg for the money. I've had mine to 130 ft with no complaints, and it makes an ideal stage reg.

Good little workhorse reg that is supposadly very reliable and easy to service. Only downside would be that it won't breath as nicely as a higher end one. I just got one for myself to use for doubles and possibly on a pony. Can't go wrong at $50, especially with the free parts waranty.

Holy mackerel, batman! I didn't realize the free parts warranty applied. I got one for my save-a-dive kit.

Only catch is that you have to have it serviced every year or they can refuse to give you the free parts. Either way this is one heck of a deal. I just wish they had some similarly priced scubapro second stages.

Scubatoys was an authorized SP dealer when they bought them. They are no longer an authorized dealer but the free parts program and warranty will still apply until the stock they purchased as an authorized dealer is sold off.

Be sure to keep your documentation that it ws purchased from an authorized delaer so that other still authorized dealers will service it. You do need to have it servcied every year (more or less, the delaer can still allow free parts if you are a month or two late) - but if you skip a year, or two or even a decade, you would just need to pay for the parts when you do eventually get it serviced to rehabilitate the free parts program. Then as long as you get it serviced every year the parts on subsequent services will again be free.

The Mk 2 is very reliable and has enough performance for recreational diving to 130 ft. It performs well in terms of inhlation effort, but it will not deliver the same quality of breathing performance as one of Scubapro's balanced first and second stage combinations.

So the question becomes, anyone have a line on some cheap second stages to add to this cheap first stage? Preferably scubapro or atomic. I got one for my own uses, but my girlfriend could use a reg setup.....
